July 2009

Maria, Mei Mei, Sandra, Christa and I caught up with Jesse on a sunny summers Saturday afternoon in Seven Sisters, we took pictures, made a film, drank cider, got in the bath, went for a ride and topped it all off with a BBQ.

Here’s what Jesse had to say:

Lauren: Where you living?

Jesse: London, wherever.

Lauren: What do you do?

Jesse: Bricoleuse, Art Bum, iFlaneur and switcharound cowboy.

Lauren: What kind of wheels do you ride?

Jesse: The best wheels.

Lauren: Anything interesting/unusual you'd like to tell GOBs about your bike?

Jesse: My bike's older than yo' mama and tuffer than yer dad. My bike beat your uncle ina fist-off. She drank you four times under the table and then rode home naked in a perfect straight line.

Lauren: Tell me more about you and your bike? Any special moments?

Jesse: Most of them since my bike is a horse and rides with me strong along the lucky road. I talk to my horse a lot and together we think out a lot of plans. We like to listen to music too, sometimes dancing, sometimes shooting live and experiential music videos with double eye-cam, iPod, and 2-wheeled dolly runner.

Lauren: What are your views on cycling culture in London?

Jesse: The bike is the ninja of the street, the secret envy of the guerrilla taxi and the armoured bus, the stealth-fighter among the road-warriors. The best of us know when to surrender and how to go soft, are above competing: we know we're winning.
